Keep Up !

Today I was working with John who is a fashion stylist who was teaching us how to take an element from a piece of clothing or object and use it as Inspiration to sketch a collection.
I used a pattern from my bracelet I was wearing and used it to design pockets, sleeves, seams, jackets, coats, trousers and skirts while being timed for five minutes. This meant I had no time to do intricate designs or patterns.

He also went through with us some popular designers and what makes them unique, looking at their iconic logos, patterns and colours. For example, Versace have their iconic gold and black or gold and white colour scheme with patterns which included Greek keys making it easily recognisable as a Versace item.

I found today challenging as I felt as I was not in control, this is because this task required me to translate what ever came to my head as fast as I can on to paper. The challenging part was me not being in control, normally when I design I like to map out the idea in my head, then sketch my idea in pencil and finally go over my final design in fine liner and/or colour. With this task there was no time for that. I had to loosen up and draw and think at the same time. This is an important skill I need so today I'm going to practise doing this by taking an element from something in my room such as a perfume bottle and look at the structure and texture of the bottle. Practising and mastering the skill of being able to design initial designs under pressure. what I did enjoy about the task is how I came up with unexpected designs and rather than rubbing out mistakes I was forced to incorporate the mistake into the design creating unexpected final outcomes.

Overall I felt like today was very successful, John was very helpful and I learnt some very valuable skills that I know need to practise as I know "Practise makes perfect".
