Introducing Our Theme Of Strutural Attachment

Today was the first official day of my course and we was introduced to what our theme was going to be which is 'attachment and structure". We explored briefly as a group the two themes and what they could mean to different people.

Some ideas that came to mind during that session regrading structure are: buildings, society, writing, science, religion & family.
We also came up with some basic first ideas for attachment which our: emotional union, family, relationship, link & bond.

We was told previously when I came in on the induction day on Wednesday 27th August to bring in three objects that reflex the word 'structure' and three objects that reflex the word 'attachment'.

What is structure ?

Well.... I quickly searched in the oxford dictionary for the definition of the word means and this is what I found:

noun

1. The arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex:

Using this information to help I selected  my three objects which were a gold bracelet/ring, a VOSS water glass water bottle, a scoubidou and my pencil case which had a floral print.

 Attachment

For the word attachment I deceived to bring in three objects, which where:

  1. A needle and thread
  2. A tiara that my mum bought for me in year 6 for my Holy communion which I have saved for over seven years.
  3. A dollar note reflecting the attachment the word as a whole has for money

I also checked the oxford dictionary on the word 'attachment' to see what the standard definition of the work is:

noun

1. An extra part or extension that is or may be attached to something to perform a particular function

We was then told to use the objects we had to make a series of drawings. I decided to zone up close to some of my objects so I was able to take selected parts from them and incorporate them to build a collage of drawings and patterns.:

I found today useful because it helped me to get back into the motion of experimental drawing, since during the summer holidays I can truthfully but shamefully say I didn't touch my sketch book. However about half way through I was starting to lose interest and I am sure this is down to the objects I decided to bring it. Some of the things I picked lacked in interest detail, structure etc. which made it very hard for me to draw from them. But overall today was a successfully day and I got ideas flowing through me head.
